About
Benz & Cie. was a German mechanical engineering and automotive company founded by Carl Benz in Mannheim in 1883, later expanding with production facilities in Mannheim-Waldhof and Gaggenau. Following the spin-off of Motoren-Werke Mannheim AG (MWM) in 1922 (still one of the largest manufacturers of stationary engines), Daimler-Benz AG (today: Mercedes-Benz Group) was formed in 1926 through a merger with Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft.
